EXTENDED SESSIONS FOR deeper healing
I offer extended sessions because trauma and attachment work often needs more space than a standard therapy hour allows. Longer sessions create room for meaningful processing, practical support, and grounding before you leave, so the work can feel deeper, steadier, and more complete.
SESSION fees
90-Minute Sessions: $300
This is my standard weekly session length. Ninety minutes gives us the time to move beyond surface-level conversation into focused, meaningful work while still allowing space to integrate before the session ends.
2-Hour Sessions: $400
Two-hour sessions are available when more extended time would be especially helpful, including intensive EMDR work, deeper processing, or couples sessions. This format can be valuable during key phases of treatment when it feels important to stay with the work longer and build more momentum in a single appointment.
WHY I WORK OUTSIDE OF insurance
Choosing private pay means your therapy stays more private, personal, and tailored to you. Insurance companies typically require a mental health diagnosis to approve treatment, which becomes part of your medical record, and they often place limits on the kind of care you can receive. Working outside of insurance allows us to protect your privacy and make clinical decisions together based on your needs, not on what a third party is willing to authorize.
It also creates space for deeper and more effective treatment. Because I am not bound by insurance restrictions on session length or format, we can do the kind of focused, in-depth work that often leads to more meaningful progress in each session. For many clients, that means therapy feels more efficient, more personalized, and more impactful from the start.
PAYMENT & INSURANCE details
Accepted Forms of Payment
I accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards. Payment is collected at the time of each session.
Out-of-Network Reimbursement
While I don't bill insurance directly, I provide superbills after each session. A superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients are able to recover a portion of their session fees this way.
-
Before your first session, I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking:
Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is my annual deductible for out-of-network providers, and how much has been met?
What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed after the deductible?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per year?
This gives you a clear picture of what your plan may reimburse before we begin.
what to expect GETTING STARTED
Book A Free Consultation
Consultations typically last 20-30 minutes. It is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation where we talk about what's going on, get to know each other and what you're looking for, and whether this feels like the right fit. If it's not, I'm happy to help point you in the right direction.
Schedule Your First Session
If we decide to move forward, we'll book your first 90-minute session through my secure client portal. You'll complete a few intake forms and review my practice policies before your first appointment so we can make the most of our time together. You can ask questions at any time.
Begin the Work
Your first session is about getting to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you've tried before, and what you want to feel different. From there, we'll build a treatment plan tailored to your goals. The next sessions will focus on preparation for the deeper work.
frequently asked QUESTIONS
-
The kind of work I do (EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, experiential processing) requires more space than a traditional therapy hour allows. Ninety minutes gives us time to go deep, do the actual processing, and close with grounding so you leave feeling settled, not activated. Clients consistently say the extended format is one of the most valuable parts of working with me.
-
All sessions are held through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Research supports that telehealth therapy, including EMDR, is just as effective as in-person work. For many clients, the comfort and convenience of being in their own space actually makes the work feel easier. You can be anywhere in Virginia and we can work together.
-
I ask for 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations (less than 48 hours) can be rescheduled within 30 days at no additional fee. I also offer one grace appointment every 6 months for those moments when life throws you a curveball. I know things come up. The policy exists to protect your treatment momentum, not to penalize you.
-
Most clients meet weekly, especially in the beginning when we're building the therapeutic relationship and creating momentum. The total length of treatment depends on what you're working with. Some clients experience significant shifts in 3 to 6 months. Others with more complex or layered histories benefit from longer-term work. We'll check in regularly and adjust as your needs evolve.
-
It's a 20-minute conversation, by phone or video, where you can share what's bringing you to therapy and ask any questions you have. I'll share a bit about how I work so you can get a sense of whether this feels like a good fit. There's no obligation. If I'm not the right match, I'll do my best to point you toward someone who is.
-
Your first session is 90 minutes. We'll spend the time getting to know each other: your history, your current struggles, what you've tried before, and what you want to be different. I'll explain how I work and we'll start mapping out a plan together. No one is going to ask you to close your eyes and process a memory on day one. We build the foundation first.
-
The most important factor in therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. If you resonate with what you've read on this site, if you're looking for someone who is warm, direct, and focused on real change, and if the areas I specialize in match what you're dealing with, there's a good chance we'd work well together. The free consultation exists so you can feel that out before committing.
-
No. Because I work outside of insurance, a diagnosis is not required to begin or continue therapy. Many of my clients don't meet criteria for a clinical diagnosis but are carrying pain, patterns, or struggles that are very real and very worth working on. You don't need a label to deserve support.
-
It might be, and here's why. Most traditional therapy relies on talking through problems and building insight. That's valuable, but for many people it only goes so far. The approaches I use (EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, experiential processing) work at a different level. They access what's stored in your nervous system, the memories, beliefs, and patterns that talk therapy can't always reach. If you've left therapy before feeling like you understood your problems but nothing actually changed, this work is designed for exactly that gap.
